This would be an excellent first step. Ultimately, it would be most helpful to have some integration with outlook that would send an email with the assignment, show deadlines on team members' calendars and send notifications when assignments were completed.

Dennis, I like what you have outlined. An additional function might be to be able to reassign the document to someone else, in addition to or rather than marking it as complete. In an office workflow, documents often go from one person to another for review, so having the ability to mark it as complete if it needs no other action is good, but assigning it to someone else as within that same screen might be helpful. In a perfect world, being able to assign a due date might also be useful.

This feature could be as simple as:

• Each Document has a new field in the Properties page (where you see document tags, types, notes, etc.) called: "Assigned To". This field would be have similar to the Matter's "Assigned To".

• Users can assign a document to any other member of the firm.

• When a document is assigned to you, it shows up somewhere easy to spot, such as the Home page.

• Users can check / mark their document as 'Complete' when appropriate.

Would this functionality be useful? Would you change anything, or have it behave differently?

An area on the home screen with notifications of documents to review is an important element of this feature for a paperless workflow, as already mentioned. Clients bring in or send in documents that staff adds to the file, but the attorney is not always aware the documents have arrived or that action is required.

This feature would be terrific and immediately useful to all users
