Easy Share / Copy URL for Internal Users

The ability to easily email documents saved on LexWorkplace to other LexWorkplace users for purposes of allowing editing of documents. Currently, the only way to email a document is to download the document and then attach it to an email. A drag and drop feature, a link that opens the document itself (not merely the folder in which it sits), or some other feature enable easy edits between users would be very helpful.

This option was critical for my practice at a big law firm. I used it probably 10-15 times per day. Having the option of sending a LW document link through Outlook so internal users can check out and edit a document is going to be hugely helpful. It will save a lot of time. The sooner this can be rolled out, the better!

Hello. You can accomplish this functionality by simply copy/pasting the URL to a document into an email (from the Document Properties Screen).
Please let our support team know if you'd like help doing this. Thank you for the feedback!

LexWorkplace Product Team: The copy/paste URL approach has worked well for us and is a huge upgrade to sharing documents internally as email attachments.
That said, it would be great to have a quicker way to share internally with one or two clicks. Here are some ideas: (1) internal share icon appears on mouseover of document or folder next to the delete (trash can) and favorite (star) icons; (2) internal share option from the three dots pop up menu of a document or folder; (3) internal share option in the Actions drop down menu; and/or (4) a "copy URL" button that at least saves the steps of navigating to the properties screen to select and copy the URL so that it can be pasted into an email.
For ideas 1-3 above, clicking the button or selecting the menu item takes you to a share screen similar to the external share screen that was just added to LW, but the recipient menu is preloaded and limited to active team members on the firm's LW license. Depending on the size of the firm, it would also be cool to have preset distribution groups, like "Assigned Staff" for everyone assigned to the matter in LW. Or, for firm documents (like announcements, new policies, meeting agendas, etc.) you might want groups like "Everyone" or "Lawyers" or "Staff" -- whatever would make sense for what you are trying to do.
The recipient(s) of the shared document or folder would then get an email, similar to the current external share email, but the included link takes them to the properties screen of the document (or opens the folder in LW if it is a folder) rather than initiating a download.
This may seem like a lot of work just to save a few clicks, but in my view internal sharing is an essential component to the workflows of any firm and it is a huge asset of the LW platform that should be emphasized and leveraged. The current process works but it is not intuitive for new users and still has the feel of a work-around rather than a feature.
Just some food for thought. Thanks for reading!

Tim Atler: This is VERY useful input, thank you. I especially appreciate the ideation and the level of detail.
Ultimately, I really like all of this. In particular, I like the "Copy Internal Link" idea in the 3-dot menu or as it's own button. (Though I also like the distribution group idea).

LexWorkplace Product Team: It would also be great to add the ability to share multiple documents (or their URLs) internally at once, perhaps by checking their boxes and then having an internal share item in the Actions drop down menu. Currently, you have to copy and paste each URL into an email and then send it to your team. It would also be helpful to be able to do this from multiple folders, as was requested for external share in this post: https://lexworkplace.canny.io/feature-requests/p/sharing-multiple-files-from-different-folders

Tim Atler: Hi Tim, this (or something like it) is definitely on our radar, including broadly: Ways to make "sharing" documents with internal users easier. One such idea is the concept of assigning documents to users, where they see their assigned documents on the home dashboard.
Stay tuned!
