Edit Previous Version Comments

The ability to edit (change or add) a Version Comment to any prior version of a document (whereas currently LexWorkplace only permits editing the most comment of the most recent version).
---FROM USER---
The ability to edit metadata is important. Currently we can only edit the metadata comments on the current version of the document. I found an error in the comments to an older version of a document and when I went to fix it the comments section is only viewable (not editable).

LexWorkplace Product Team: Yes. I would like to be able to edit the comment field for any prior version. My original post was intended to address that issue only. I am a new user and still feeling out the functionality of the system. There is another/separate comment thread on automatic document stamping in Word (with document number and versions) and I understand that functionality is in process by the development team. I can tell you that once that functionality is complete and clients can see the version numbers in footers, clients will complain that there are too many versions on a document and attorneys are not being efficient. As such, users are going to want more ability to save over old versions and delete versions (as I understand it now, if I have saved version 4 of a document and then delete it and start making more changes, the next version will automatically be labeled version 5 and not version 4).

Are you saying that you'd like to be able to edit the 'Comment' field for any prior version?
Or--something else? Thank you.

Bradley Wideman: Perfect, thank you. I'm going to re-name this Feature Request to make it clear and (hopefully!) get more upvotes. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback!

LexWorkplace Product Team: Thank you. I apologize if I put this in the wrong place. I plan to be a long-term user and just wanted to provide real-time feedback as a few of these issues come up for me.
LexWorkplace Product Team
Bradley Wideman: No apology needed! This kind of feedback is vital, so thank you for taking the time. -Dennis.

Thank you Bradley. To make sure I understand your request:
The metadata (left column) is dynamic, and not tied to any one version.
The version history (right column) only has one user-editable field, the 'Comment' field.

LexWorkplace Product Team: I just replied on the string above and I hope that clarified my comments. The system appears to be designed to save everything forever and I just think users should have the ability to override that (as an example, I should be able to delete a version entirely and create a new version with that same number). Users make mistakes and the system setup preserves those mistakes without giving users the chance to fix them.

Hi Bradley, thank you for the feedback!
We deliberately don't allow editing previous versions to ensure the integrity of prior versions. (That is: That this version absolutely had this content and these properties at that time).

LexWorkplace Product Team: I think that should be changed and having something set in stone like that causes confusion. Now I have a version with an error in the notes and I can't go back and correct those notes. Anyone who sees that version with the error is going to be confused when they open the document a few weeks from now. I think many people would find the ability to edit all metadata, including notes, helpful. I would also note that this functionality is pretty standard in other document management solutions I have used while at other firms.
