What is the status with this feature? It appears to have been planned and/or in progress now for nearly three years.

Rob Clapper: Hi Ron, it is currently IN DEVELOPMENT and has been for a couple of months now. (It's been PLANNED for multiple years, you are correct). Our goal is to be releasing OCR in Q1 of 2024.

Pamela Ramsey: 'Planned' means we are definitively planning to develop this feature (as opposed to: waiting to gage the demand / get more votes). This particular feature request is one of the most-requested, and our goal is to add this functionality yet in 2022.
